It feels like there is a seismic shift when it comes to ideas and execution.

Before it was commonly said, to not be shy about sharing your ideas. Ideas were two a penny, everyone had them. It was the execution that was the hard part. That’s where the barriers were.

But now with generative AI dismantling so many of these barriers to execution, should we still be communicating our ideas so liberally? In this new world where apps are created from scratch by one person with a few prompts, ideas and creativity arguably become the most important variables for success.

The problem is, for many of us, as we navigate the complexities of adulthood, and the demands of everyday life, our once-vibrant imaginations often take a backseat. We unknowingly build walls around our creativity that can be hard to break down. We work hard, we forget to play.

Recently, I found myself once again captivated by the old film “Hook”. Released in 1991, it tells the story of Peter Pan’s journey to reclaim his lost imagination and return to Neverland. The parallels between this tale and our modern reality struck me profoundly.

We must rekindle the flames of curiosity, embrace the art of daydreaming, and allow ourselves the freedom to explore the unknown. It is in this space of imagination that breakthroughs occur, where ideas flourish, and where the seeds of innovation take root.

As Peter Pan found out though, reconnecting with our creative imagination requires a conscious effort. We must resist the allure of passivity, the comfort of relying solely on AI-generated solutions. Instead, we must become active participants in our own creative processes. This means carving out time for reflection, nurturing our inner child, and embracing the uncharted territory of uncertainty.

As we traverse the landscape of generative AI, let us remember that the technology itself is not the ultimate destination. It is a powerful ally, capable of augmenting our ideas and amplifying our potential. However, the true magic still lies within ourselves – the ability to envision, to question, and to dream.

If generative AI is our own virtual Neverland, then we need to find our inner Lost Boy.
